When is the ‘right time’ for men to have children? Seeking men’s views
This website provides information about a PhD study into men’s views about the ‘right time’ to have children. This study being carried out at De Montfort University, Leicester, and is being conducted by Caroline Law.
Why is the study being done?
Researchers, policy makers and healthcare practitioners are increasingly interested in when people think is the ‘right time’ to have children and when people actually do have children. However, most research is carried out with women, and we know very little about men’s views and opinions on this topic. I am keen to address this gap, and to bring men's view and experiences into research evidence and discussion and debate around this topic.
What stage is the research at?
I have recently completed my interviews, having conducted semi-structured interviews with 25 men who want or expect to have children in the future. The sample includes men across a range of ages, single men and men in relationships, and men of varying ethnicities, in order to explore the significance of these factors. I am now analysing the data.
